True Weight Loss Story;
How Rahul Ditta Managed Weight During Corona Pandemic
Hey everyone
Today what I am going to share with you all, is a story that is close to my heart, so much so that it won’t be wrong if I tell you that this #IWBMovement True Weight Loss Story of Rahul Ditta reminds me of 2013 when I got featured in Indian Weight Loss Blog by Tarunpreet. Some time back I received a message on IWB’s Insta account- https://www.instagram.com/indianweightlossblog/ from Rahul Ditta who wanted us to share his weight loss story. When I read it, what made it impressive for me was how this young man after losing weight managed to maintain the loss during the lockdown. Let me present Rahul Ditta and his true weight loss story as he believes, “Losing weight is as much psychological as it is physical.”
Over to Rahul Ditta…
At 130 Kg in July 2019, I never thought that I will ever be able to overcome obesity and change myself physically. Those were the times when the society keeps on hitting you with body-shaming comments, it is all the way more difficult to live. But you need a kick or a reason to change. In my case, it was the kick, I got from my sedentary lifestyle and medical conditions born out of it. I took it as a challenge and started the most difficult journey.
When you start with a weight loss journey, the biggest battle is to train your mind. I also learned that obesity also impacts your professional life. In a stressful work environment today you need to be both mentally and physically strong. Obesity makes you sluggish and lazy.
Diet Matters-
The most important factor in accomplishing my journey was my diet, which scientifically contributed 70% of my weight loss. My monthly regular grocery items were replaced with Quinoa, Chia seeds, Daliya, Poha, Fresh Fruits, Curd, Veggies, Chicken Breast, Fish, Boiled Egg White, and Peanut Butter. I used to pick combinations of some of the mentioned food items for my Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner which was balanced with equal portions of protein, carbohydrates, and fiber to get me going.
Before indulging in such a transformed diet, I was like any other Delhiite – a foodie by heart, body, and soul. I loved gorging into scrumptious Chola Bhatura, Paratha’s, Biryani, Ice Cream with Gulab Jamun, Big Sized Cheese Burgers, Cheese Crust Pizza’s, and so on.
You lose some to win some…
The other important factor in my journey was played by my Gym Coach Vipin Choudhary. It was a challenge for him also. He never gave up on me as he felt the dedication and saw the fire burning to see results. He provided a perfect combination of Weight + Cardio Training which resulted positively.
There were days that while working out I would have fainted, but we kept on going in the right direction. Two times a week I was doing cardio workouts mostly with cross-fit sessions. Balance days, I indulged in weight training.
Rain or sunshine I would never miss my Gym sessions, even if I got late, we made sure that we do not end the day on a zero workout. And yes, there were days where coz of this I was rewarded with the love of my life (food) as cheat days which again pumped me to go on and hit the bull’s eye.
45 Kg in 9 months… Wow!
The result of all the efforts mentioned above was beyond my imagination. I was able to hit 85 Kg in March 2020. Lost 45 Kg in 9 months. My wardrobe changed completely I used to shop from A+ Store which is only for Sizes going beyond standard denominations. Now I enjoy Slim Fit shirts and trousers of the brand I like, there is a difference of 10 inches in my waist size.
Then there was the Pandemic Lockdown-
In March, when Lockdown was announced and Gyms were shut down, a Bigger challenge awaited me to maintain the lost weight myself. Everyone was restricted with no physical activity outside the house. That was the time when I decided and relied mostly on my refurbished diet plan as I knew stopping the gym will immediately shoot my body weight.
The Lockdown Food Plan-
I switched to almost boiled food, veg, nonveg both, and continued with cardio training which my coach had taught me. During the initial days of lockdown since I had no means to train with weights, I used to google and find means of using household items as weights for training purpose, like putting sealed packets of Pulses and Rice, etc. in a bag, construction bricks, Water-filled bucket, empty gas cylinder, Chin-ups on welded window panes, sounds crazy but I did all of these to make sure my hard work is not ruined during the lockdown. As a result, I was able to maintain my body weight at around 85 Kg.
I am truly enjoying my new look now, a big credit also goes to my spouse Nidhi, who ensured my diet is managed well and ensured that my house along with my 3-year-old son was taken care of while I was off to the gym. She motivated me to do more and get into shape.
My mantra to stay fit is Perseverance, Balanced Diet, Moderate to Heavy Exercise, and yes of course load and loads of motivators who compliment and pump you to achieve more.
What Next!
My journey has yet not ended as I still follow my diet, exercise regime in the form of running activities, participating in virtual Marathons, setting up walking targets, and yes of course making use of my small mini gym at home along with my motivators the compliments that still keep me on my toes. Now, the target is to get fit, fitter, and fittest because I have learned, “You have got only one life either “make it or break it. It’s all in your mind, once you decide, half of the battle is already won!”
